“Has Anyone Seen Bob Laidler?”

 

03/24/2011 - In a few days Bob will retire from Ducks Unlimited. Bob joined Ducks Unlimited Canada in January of 1981. While he considers himself a project manager, Bob has been asked to manage such a broad range of special “projects” over the years that his most recent title of General Manager for the Oak Hammock Marsh Conservation Centre is probably the most fitting. In this role Bob wears multiple hats – which explains why he can be so hard to find.
 
In the late 1980s, Bob became the Project Manager to oversee the construction of the Conservation Centre at Oak Hammock Marsh. With the project successfully completed (and under-budget), Bob was convinced to take on the new role of managing the Interpretive Centre in 1993. He has been instrumental in negotiating the partnership agreements between Manitoba Conservation and Ducks Unlimited Canada. Bob is “the face” of the Interpretive Centre. He is well-known within the tourism, museum, science centre, and environmental education fields in Manitoba, Canada, and the beyond. Bob Laidler served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Science Centres from 2002 to 2004.   His dedication, managerial and business skills, and tireless networking since 1993 has put the Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre on the map as a wetland interpretive centre with countless awards recognizing its achievements in conservation, education, visitor experience, and sustainable tourism. Some of the highlights include: “Best Outdoor Site in Canada” (Attraction s Canada), “Global Winner in Environmental Experience” (British Airways Tourism for Tomorrow), “Green Roof Award for Excellence” (Green Roofs for Healthy Cities), “Best Outreach Program” (Canadian Association of Science Centres), and “Business of the Year for Tourism Excellence” (Tourism Industry Association of Canada).
