Members meet with advisors to Minister of State (S+T) Gary Goodyear
On January 26 members of the CASC Board of Directors held a very successful set of advocacy meetings with senior officials and elected representatives in Ottawa. Many thanks to those who travelled and covered their own expenses to do so. Many thanks too, to those who have met with their Members of Parliament over the break. We have documented meetings in Edmonton, Sudbury, London, Halifax, and Fredericton regions.
And yet we still need to do more. Canada’s science strategy Mobilizing Science and Technology to Canada’s Advantage was published nearly three years ago. And still there is no plan to “increase the number of people pursuing education and meaningful careers in S+T in Canada” as stated in the strategy. Science Centres and similar organisations are eager to help meet this goal. Nonetheless, it will take leadership like that shown by Australia (see “Australia Proposes”, below) to keep Canada from falling further behind in the global race to inspire innovative thinkers and doers.
The Federal Initiative team has asked all of CASC’s member institutions to press their representatives across Canada to show their support for the science centres and similar organisations in their region. To get involved or for more information, please contact the CASC
