|2015-06-11||2015-06-11|| How to Assess the Learning Impact of Your Exhibits
Learning is an active process of making meaning in the context of personal prior knowledge and prior experience, motivation and interest. Engaging visitors in a learning experience is a fundamental objective for science centres. Assessing the effectiveness of exhibits is imperative for informing best practices and for understanding the potential impact exhibits can have on visitor learning. Yet conducting research while using minimal resources can seem unattainable for many science centres.
In this webinar, Chantal Barriault from Laurentian University (formerly from Science North) will introduce participants to the Visitor-Based Learning Framework, a practical exhibit assessment tool that has been used successfully at Science North and others science centres around the world. Understanding the learning process and being able to identify evidence of learning are key to assessing potential learning impact of our exhibits. Participants in this webinar will gain skills in identifying the learning-associated behaviours that make up the Visitor-Based Learning Framework. Data collection and analysis methods involved in using this tool will be demonstrated and participants will feel confident in their ability to apply this assessment method in their own institutions.
In this webinar, you will learn to:
- Identify evidence of learning and learning-associated behaviours
- Collect and analyse visitor behaviour data at your exhibit
- Apply the Visitor-Based Learning Framework
- Interpret your findings to understand the potential learning impact of your exhibit.
