20 Years of Cleaner Shorelines - Seeking Partners for 2013

This September, the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, presented by Loblaw Companies Limited, is celebrating its 20th Anniversary.  We’ve come a long way since a small group of Vancouver Aquarium employees and volunteers cleaned a local shoreline 20 years ago.   A conservation initiative of the Vancouver Aquarium and WWF, the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup is now the largest direct action conservation programs in Canada.
We’re proud of what our volunteers have accomplished in the last 20 years, and this September we want to celebrate this milestone with 20 public drop-in shoreline cleanups across the country. To do this, we need your help.  We’re looking for conservation partners to organize a public drop-in cleanup at one of their local shorelines during our fall cleanup week taking place September 21-29.
The main responsibilities of hosting a cleanup are:
Selecting a date and location to host a local cleanup
Managing a group of cleanup participants
Obtaining cleanup supplies for your group
Notifying the local municipality & arranging waste disposal
Ensuring participants complete data cards to tally type and amount of litter collected
If you host a cleanup, we’ll provide support for organizing the cleanup and help you promote your event through the Shoreline Cleanup website and social media channels.
If this sounds like something you are interested in, please contact Susan Debreceni, Volunteer Support Coordinator, for more details at shorelinecleanup@vanaqua.org or 1-877-427-2422 option 1.
