COVID-19 Recovery & Updates

> Government Announcements

Last week, the Government of Canada made several significant announcements on changes to federal support programs related to COVID-19.

  • Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) is expanding existing funding for businesses by an additional $20,000, bringing total available funds up to $60,000 for Canadian businesses to cover expenses.
    • Up to 50% are eligible for loan forgiveness.
  • Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA) for small businesses provides relief for those experiencing financial hardship due to COVID‑19 and is being changed to provide rent support directly to tenants instead of through commercial landlords.
    • This change will make rent and mortgage support up to 65% available for hard hit businesses through June 2021.
    • The maximum amount will be available to those experiencing income decreases of 70% or more.

Association Updates

> On October 29th, we want to hear from our members!

As we continue to work on our Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Accessibility (DIEA) efforts internally, we want to explore ways in which CASC can support our members - those facing systemic barriers and those working to break those barriers.

Join us on October 29, 2020, for part one of a series of community consultations addressing DIEA: Our role and how we can support our members.

As part of our learning process, we are looking to other organizations connected to our sector who are doing great work and have established DIEA guiding principles that may also help us along our own journey.

Guest Speaker:

Karine Morin, the Director, Policy and Interagency Affairs of NSERC, will be joining us and she’ll share lessons learned in the development of the Dimensions program, which aims to increase equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and help drive deeper cultural change within the research ecosystem. Dimensions is an initiative of the three granting agencies in collaboration with Universities Canada as well as Colleges and Institutes Canada.

This is a CASC Member ONLY Event.
