Call for Learning Session Speakers

We want you! With your experience and expertise we can jointly develop an innovative virtual conference experience.

Join us, June 1-3, 2021, for our first-ever VIRTUAL CONFERENCE!

CASC 2021: Future Imperfect is a three-day virtual conference, presented by the Canadian Association of Science Centres. This year's program features a daily Keynote Speaker, a series of daily prerecorded learning sessions, and daily opportunities to network and engage with colleagues and peers from coast to coast to coast.

We are now looking for people to share their case studies, ideas and innovations with colleagues from coast to coast to coast. No travel will be required to speak at CASC 2021: Future Imperfect virtual conference and all speakers receive free entry to the conference. Below are the details to help you prepare your learning session proposal.

Conference Theme

Our theme for this year's conference is ”Future Imperfect”.

A future imperfect is grounded in less perfection and more authenticity; where risk, experimentation, failure, and resiliency can be portals to discovery and innovation. In the past year, the science centre and science museum sector has faced disruption and has had the courage to evolve – to explore new ways of engaging our audiences, to acknowledge and work towards breaking down systemic barriers, and to play a vital role in supporting people across Canada during a global pandemic. A future imperfect embraces change and makes room for growth.

Sub-themes

The CASC 2021: Future Imperfect virtual conference will explore the following sub-themes:

Trust in the misinformation age

    • Evolution of our missions, discourse, and public engagement programs to address global challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the climate crisis
    • Engaging and supporting populations disproportionately affected by global challenges
    • Measuring social impact

Mind the digital gap

    • Making science accessible and relevant to local communities through digital and hybrid offerings
    • Being a community hub in a digital era
    • Sustainability and new business models

Navigating and supporting organizational change

    • Building a strong and skilled workforce to grow impact
    • Fostering a culture of equity, diversity, accessibility and inclusion
    • Creating pathways for a multi-generational workforce of staff and volunteers to grow in their careers

Citizen science and innovation

    • Science centres/museums as living labs and hubs for citizen science
    • Public innovation programs, incentives, and campaigns
    • Beyond ideation: scaling projects, innovating products and processes, creating new revenue streams, leveraging new opportunities in a changing funding landscape

If you feel that you have something to say on one of these sub-themes, we invite you to submit a proposal to speak at the CASC 2021: Future Imperfect conference.
