Science World British Columbia announced record-breaking attendance for 2018, hitting over 1 million visitors and a 20 percent increase from 2017. The centre credits a number of factors including outreach programs, revitalized exhibits, high-profile feature exhibitions and films, and programming which had included the Class Field Trip Bursary Program that allows thousands of youth from underserved schools to visit Science World.

Their temporary exhibits also contributed to the success of the centre, bringing in major visitor traffic with exhibitions like The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! and The Science Behind PIXAR.

“We’re thrilled to have served a record number of visitors over this past year. It speaks to the remarkable impacts of experiential learning, and to the important role of science centres,” said Scott Sampson, President & CEO of Science World. “Science World is empowering youth with skills in critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity, all of which are essential for success in the emerging innovation economy.”

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Vancouver science centre. Since Expo ‘86 the science centre has welcomed over 18 million visitors.
