Rossant believes that part of her job is to mentor women and young scientists of all kinds. A pleasant matter of coincidence is that her office at the Gairdner Foundation — an organization that recognizes research that has an impact on human health — where she is president, the staff is entirely female. An upcoming public event at the Telus World of Science will focus on taking the squirm factor out of talking about feces.

On March 6, the latest talk in a speaker series jointly presented by Science World and Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) will tackle the issue of solid human waste and how it can be utilized as a resource instead of possibly polluting our environment. Read more

VANCOUVER AQUARIUM — OUR FUTURE

This fall, the Aquarium will begin construction on the Canada’s Arctic exhibit that has been planned for more than a decade: a transformed habitat and display that will engage visitors about the challenges facing Canada’s fragile North. An array of species will be featured, from coldwater corals to Arctic pinnipeds, such as seals and walruses. Learn more.

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, announced an investment of $2.7 million to relocate the Musée Armand-Frappier, Centre d'interprétation des biosciences, to the Cosmodôme site in Laval.

Granted by the Government of Canada through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, this funding will enable the Musée Armand-Frappier to better meet the needs of its clientele by offering the public larger, more accessible spaces and by welcoming more school groups. Thanks to this project, the City of Laval will also be able to enhance the region's cultural offer and consolidate its science-based museum attractions.

"The stakeholders of the Musée Armand-Frappier are delighted with this grant, which will allow the municipality to complete the financial package required to equip the Museum with new facilities. We have been working enthusiastically for some time now to define this great project, which will see the Museum transform into an Armand-Frappier BioCentre. At the end of a four-year secondment from Science North, Stephanie Deschenes will return to her home organization at the end of June 2018.  The Canadian Association of Science Centres is now searching for a new Executive Director to continue the association’s mission to build capacity for members to inspire a creative and prosperous Canada through science and technology engagement.  A copy of the job posting can be found here.
