    A live seven-foot carpet python is wrapped around Mason Charbonneau’s neck and shoulders like a fox stole.

    His presentation is about reptiles and he has a captivated audience of about 20 people seated in a semi-circle around him. Most of them are children who have questions ranging from what snakes eat to how they poop.

    Charbonneau is a facilitator at Science Timmins and is hosting a demonstration of some of their live exhibits which include geckos and an African bull frog. Read more.

    British Columbia has noticed the deep aboriginal history put on display this year at The Exploration Place.

    The local reaction to the exhibit has been strong and positive, said Calogheros. The public understood immediately the museum's desire to provide permanent cultural context within their walls, especially since the facility literally sits on the site of the village where the Lheidli T'enneh resided prior to their ousting in the few years preceding the arrival of the railroad.     In the new emergency department — triple the size of the old one — local company NGX Interactive created a virtual aquarium designed to soothe spirits and banish the boredom that patients typically experience in waiting rooms. Through physical gestures, children can interact with animated marine creatures like turtles, starfish, stingrays, dolphins, tropical fish, shellfish and orcas, all in their underwater habitats.  

    Hannah Cho, a member of the NGX group that created the aquarium, said the installation was the result of a collaboration with the Vancouver Aquarium 

    The oncology procedure room, where children will undergo interventions like bone marrow aspiration, offers patients a spacewalk journey to take their minds off their treatment The hospital partnered with H.R. MacMillan Space Centre on the designs. Read more

    The future of indoor farming is held together with zip ties, powered by extension cords and aerated by bathroom exhaust fans.

    Toronto area entrepreneur Zale Tabakman has brought his budding vertical farming business to Windsor through a collaboration with Canada South Science City and support from Unifor Skilled Trades.

    Tabakman’s agriculture and technology company — Local Grown Salads — is taking root inside the Forster Community Hub. Read more
