> CSA Webinar: STEM Initiatives for Youth

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) cordially invites you to a webinar on the financing awarded for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiatives for youth.

The webinar will feature a presentation by CSA representatives on the topics below, followed by a Q&A period:

  • CSA’s Youth STEM and Grants and Contribution Program;
  • Announcements of Opportunities (AO) and the application process;
  • Evaluation of proposal and the awarding of grants and contributions;
  • Management of grant and contribution agreements.

There will be two sessions offered on October 21st, 2021:

  • English session from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. (ET)
  • French session from 10:30 a.m. to noon (ET)

> A Cross-country CASC Member Collaboration of Science Literacy

The Canadian Association of Science Centres (CASC), in partnership with Exploring By The Seat Of Your Pants (EBTSOYP) hosted a 5-day virtual #WeekofWonder (pilot initiative) during NSERC’s Science Literacy Week (#Scilit) from September 20-24, 2021.

The week-long event featured virtual STEM programming from 20 of Canada’s leading Science Centres, Museums, and STEM Outreach organizations. Daily programming provided options for francophone or anglophone audiences.

Over 2300 Educators, students, and classrooms from across Canada and the world took part in this amazing cross-country collaboration of science literacy.

This pilot initiative was led by the CASC Education and Programs Community of Practice (CoP) Steering  Committee. We are thrilled to have made this possible for our members! 

Plans for a “WeekOfWonder 2.0” are underway for spring of 2022. Stay connected to receive all the details on how your institution can take part.

 

> Calling all Education, Programs and Outreach Staff!

We're looking to expand our CoP Steering Committee and are inviting new individuals to apply.

The CASC Education & Programs (CoP) facilitates sharing, collaboration, and learning among participants and addressing best practices, guidelines, and strategies to inform and create quality public, educational and outreach program delivery. Science engagement and education professionals from CASC member organizations, who inform and create quality STE(A)M public, education and outreach programs, may participate in the CoP.

The role of the CASC Education & Programs (CoP) Steering Committee is to assist in guiding the CASC office staff to ensure that the association provides high value to the CoP participants. This may include, but is not limited to:

  • Collaboration: Address challenges and opportunities with public education and outreach programming, particularly in times of crisis.

  • Knowledge Sharing & Stewarding: Organize, manage, and steward a body of knowledge from which community members can draw.

  • Innovation: Explore and create breakthrough ideas, new knowledge, and best practices.

  • Networking: Provide a variety of opportunities for community members to create partnerships and grow relationships.

Please review the terms of reference for this committee before applying.

>>> The application deadline is November 23, 2021 and potential start date for the role is January 10, 2022.

> 2021 CASCADE AWARDS: Six awards were distributed to recognize Best Projects and Individual Achievements

The Canadian Association of Science Centers (CASC) celebrated our Annual CASCADE Awards celebration virtually on Thursday, Sept 23, 2021. Close to 100 informal science engagement professionals and supporters connected over Zoom in meeting style, providing an opportunity for colleagues and friends from across the CASC network to connect informally "face to face".

The innovative event brought the CASC network together for an evening of celebration, laughter, and inspiration.

        Making the world healthier, smarter, and kinder

        The Rideau Hall Foundation, in partnership with JA Canada, is launching Ingenious+ this month – an innovation challenge aimed at youth aged 14 to 18.


        The goal is to give youth the opportunity to innovate for good, and to share their strategies to address problems at home, across Canada, and around the world.


        Winners will be selected at the regional and national levels, and will receive up to $10,000 and customized mentorship from leading Canadian innovators.

        Ingenious+ is launching with a series of public events on October 19, 21, and 22. Join us for incredible discussions with inspiring innovators.
